Getting to Know Nicole Curtis

Oct 18, 2016, 12:10 PM
If you’re a fan of DIY and home renovations, you’ve probably seen Nicole Curtis on her hit television show Rehab Addict on HGTV. It follows Nicole as she discovers and rehabilitates historic houses that have fallen on hard times. In addition to her own show, Nicole has also played judge to a number of other series on HGTV, including Beach Flip and Flipping the Block, and has made a guest appearance on DIY Network’s Daryl’s Restoration Over-Hall.

In advance of the Johnson County Home + Remodeling Show, we had the opportunity to quiz Nicole on everything from her tool belt (or lack of one) to what she finds most challenging about her life as a home celebrity.

Q: Are you on social media?
Nicole: "Yes! It's really me that handles the social media - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram."

Q: What three items do you always keep in your tool belt?
Nicole: "I have never worn a tool belt...ever. Near me? Screwdriver, hammer, pry bar and always a handful of drywall screws which I find use for everywhere."

Q: Describe your design style in five words or fewer.
Nicole: "Classic, Elegant, Comfortable, Washable and Calm."

Q: What was your first ever remodel project?
Nicole: "My first official remodel was a mid-century ranch in Tampa, Florida."

Q: What trend or item are you coveting this season?
Nicole: "Oh, geez- I’m not a trend follower, but I'm absolutely following hot cider and donuts as I do every fall season."

Q: What is your favorite room in your home and why?
Nicole: "My master suite in each home is where I spend the most time. When one travels as much as we do, there's nothing like coming home to your own bed. My master bedrooms are always the top floors of old houses, so they are massive: dressing room, bathroom, bedroom and sitting area. Basically, I've built a penthouse apartment into our homes so that the dogs and kids can all relax."

Q: What is the most challenging part of your job?
Nicole: "Being at two places at once. It's a lot to juggle right now- being in different time zones and making it all fit."

Nicole will be signing her new book Better Than New: Lessons I've Learned from Saving Old Homes (and How They Saved Me) on Saturday, October 22 only from 12pm until 3pm at the Overland Park Convention Center! Don't have tickets yet? Get 2-for-1 on Facebook and treat a friend or family member to the show. We can't wait to see you there!
